What Do You Need? 3 Tips To Jumpstart the Process

Time To Look Within

As a society, we are over stimulated with new content from all avenues of social media. A catch phrase, a product review, maybe even a familiar influencer you watch on a weekly basis. Constant ideas and products being pushed on you, the viewer, to make you think they will meet your needs. Our poor brains. It’s like a constant hit of digital dopamine every time we scroll up!

This summer I intentionally took time to pause, recharge, and lean into my own needs. I too am guilty of watching endless hours of YouTube. Yes, it is my guilty pleasure. Sshh, it’s our secret!

I am a sucker for the latest product or the catchy playlist that draws me into an influencer’s daily habits. All in hopes of meeting my own needs by attempting to align with a stranger’s needs.

Wellness continues to be one of my top needs. I am constantly looking outward for the next best “thing”. The “thing” that will bring me optimal wellness.

But funny thing is wellness comes from within. There is no “thing” that can help me or you meet that need.

The great psychologist Abraham Maslow came up with the theory of hierarchy of needs. In his five-tier model, he discovered humans all have needs. We all have a hierarchy of needs that are individual to self.

My hierarchy of needs will differ from yours. Therefore, watching YouTube and being inspired by an influencer’s daily habits or product reviews may not equate optimal wellness for me. I have to look inward to achieve that!

Here are my top 3 tips to inspire you to pursue your own hierarchy of needs.

  1. REFLECT. Look inward. Where are you at in this moment? What do you need? What are your emotional, mental, and physical needs?

  2. VISUALIZE. What would it feel like for you to meet those needs?

  3. ACT & OPEN. Immerse yourself in whatever you need to do to meet those needs. Stop looking outward for satisfaction. Understand satisfying a need(s) is a journey, not a destination. Be open to your needs changing overtime.

Your turn. What are your hierarchy of needs?
